Poltergeist 2015 – Trailer

Poltergeist – 2015
Stars: Sam Rockwell, Rosemarie DeWitt, Jared Harris

Plot: Legendary filmmaker Sam Raimi and director Gil Kenan reimagine and contemporize the classic tale about a family whose suburban home is invaded by angry spirits. When the terrifying apparitions escalate their attacks and take the youngest daughter, the family must come together to rescue her.

Quick Review: Poltergeist… It knows what scares you... At least, that is what we were lead to believe from the first set of films involving Carol Anne and her family.

This time around Sam Rockwell leads a great cast in what is sure to be a great film. But, will it be as good as the original?

If the trailer is anything to go by, then this will be just as good – if not better – than the original version. But I guess we will soon see.

Poltergeist comes out July 24, 2015.

What We Do in the Shadows (2014) – Movie Review

What We Do In The Shadows (2014)
Stars: Jemaine Clement, Taika Waititi, Jonathan Brugh, Cori Gonzalez-Macuer, Stuart Rutherford, Ben Fransham
IMDB Rating: 7.7

Plot: Follow the lives of Viago (Taika Waititi), Deacon (Jonathan Brugh), and Vladislav (Jemaine Clement) – three flatmates who are just trying to get by and overcome life’s obstacles-like being immortal vampires who must feast on human blood. Hundreds of years old, the vampires are finding that beyond sunlight catastrophes, hitting the main artery, and not being able to get a sense of their wardrobe without a reflection-modern society has them struggling with the mundane like paying rent, keeping up with the chore wheel, trying to get into nightclubs, and overcoming flatmate conflicts.

Quick Review: This mockumentary is about four vampires sharing a flat together. If you think that the vampire theme has reached it’s limit, you need to rethink your life 🙂

Taika Waititi and Jermaine Clement lead a great cast of Kiwi actors who play a small group of bloodsuckers living in a flat together in Wellington. When a freshly turned bloodsucker starts bragging about his new-found vampire status, things start going wrong for the gang.

There is no shortage of laughs in this film. and keep watch for the hilarious confrontation between the gang of misfit vamps and the swear-wolves… err I mean werewolves lol

If you love great mockumentaries, then you will love this.

Verdict: Still a better love story than Twilight lol
Rating: 9 out of 10

What We Do In The Shadows

What a week

If you have been following my blog, you will have noticed that I dropped off the radar for the last week or so. Despite how busy I tend to get, I always try to make an update with film/tv reviews, or even guest blogs.

But this week has been one that has been filled with joy and utter disaster.

The joyful part:

Monday was a huge day for us. Our son David started a new chapter in his life with starting Prep at the local Catholic school. Being in a new school, he was very clingy and didn’t want to see us leave, and now, even a week in, he still doesn’t want to see me leave in the morning after I drop him off. 🙂

It wasn’t that long ago that we were taking him to a Daycare center down the road, and only last year he was in Kindy. Now, a new journey begins as he starts his schooling years.

Times have certainly changed since I was at Primary school. Back in the dark ages, we didn’t have “Prep”. It was Grade 1 through 7 for Primary school, and then high school years started with grade 8.

Gone are the days of the blackboard, which wasn’t exactly black, but a dark green 🙂 Gone are the chalk and dusters, and gone are the homework assignments from day one 😦

These days, they have interactive whiteboards (or as David calls it: Interlaxative Nightboard lol), and more gadgets that I wouldn’t know how to use if one showed me.

The first week has shown to be interesting, and young Davo has managed to make a few new mates already. Good on him 🙂 I am sure he will be quite popular in school.

There is one upside to all this. At least we get to see his creative artworks on the school blog 🙂

I have to admit, being the proud dad I am, I have taken quite a number of piccys this week on my smartphone and uploaded them on Facebook for the world to see 🙂

These are small steps for young Davo, and only the first week of what will be a long road ahead as he meets the challenges of the next 7 years of primary school.

DavidFunny I don’t recall going on a boat trip over the holidays lol

Now for the bad:

I cannot say too much on here for what could possibly have backlash. But I will say that the car we purchased on finance in June 2013 (18.5791% thank you very much Esanda!!!!) had undergone a mandatory inspection last August.

The backstory on the car is this: In Nov 2012, the car was listed on the Written Off Vehicle Register. Now, we purchased the car at the end of June 2013. The dealer told us that the back bumper had some damage which they replaced, and he got a Roadworthy test and a Roadworthy certificate had been issued on the car. (I will take care of you guys – I remember him saying.. Yeah, he certainly did that!!!!!)

As it turns out, the Roadworthy Cert issued was more or less given to this scumbag by a mate of the car dealer, knowing that the car was anything but roadworthy. The report we got back Monday included a 2 page report on all the defects that were wrong with the car, which all dated back to the original report in 2012….. 7 months before we purchased the vehicle.

The powers that be don’t want to pay for the repairs, and the car dealer has since packed up business and vanished.

And so the bullshit continues.

How this will end I do not know. But, it is sickening to know that the amount of compensation offered to us will not be enough to cover the cost of paying out the loan. And as for Esanda’s involvement? They don’t give two shits that the vehicle should not have been sold in the first place.

Frustrating to say the least. There has been other things that happened which I wont go into, but needless to say this past week has had more sorrow than joy.

The stress from this week has also seen a large number of grey hairs come in too, which is another matter 😦
