Plot: THE LAST MAN ON EARTH is a new single-camera comedy about the life and adventures of the last man on earth. PHIL MILLER (Forte) was once just an average guy who loved his family and hated his job at the bank – now he’s humanity’s last hope. Will he ever find another person alive on the planet? Would hoping that she is a female be asking too much?
Review: Thanks to an unlikely event, Phil Miller (Will Forte) wakes up one day to discover that he is the last man on Earth. The Last Man On Earth is an end-of-the-world comedy that follows the adventures of a less-than-average man who discovers what life is like when no one is telling you what you can and cannot do.
From the first episode, I found this show to be funny. Sure it has it’s dry moments, which there are several. But what the shows lacks, it makes up for in later episodes when Phil tries to score with the “woman of his dreams”.
Being the last man on Earth has advantages, as Phil so aptly demonstrates… Such as: All sized balls for friends; Reckless driving; Blowing stuff up; Setting himself on fire; Living in any house he wants; And of course, using a swimming pool as a toilet.
Phil manages to find Carol (Kristen Schaal). Carol is your very plain-jane kinda girl. Smart-assed, bat-shit crazy and knows what Phil is all about. As crazy as she is, she knows the score, so she hooks up with him, based on her criteria. One – she insists they get married; Two – their sex (if you want to call it that) is purely for breeding purposes. Here one would assume that any kind of sex would be good, considering Phil’s predicament…. He is the only man on Earth (so we are lead to think), and she is the only woman… Instead of making the most of it, he avoids – for the most part – sex with Carol like the plague…
Enter Hot girl.. Melissa Shart (January Jones). Of course, Phil develops an instant crush on her, but he cannot do anything since he is married to Carol, and Melissa doesn’t like cheaters 🙂
Being the Last Man On Earth would have some advantages, but none of them involve the idiot choices that Phil seems to make in each episode.
While it has it’s funny moments, I seriously doubt it will see Season 2.
Verdict: Don’t Shit In The Pool!
