BLURB:

Colton Stone is a newly traded tight end whose reputation is as battered as his football helmet. When he receives a vacation invitation from his new teammates, he accepts. There he collides with Dr. Lillian Morgan, a pediatric cardiovascular surgeon, and doesn’t know what to think.

A widow with two children, Lilly travels to Kauai to attend the wedding of a friend and witness the union she lost three years prior. When she meets Colt, she struggles between letting go of her perfect past for an uncertain future.

Strange events begin to occur, out of the realm of normal consciousness. Black energy touches their world and the couple become pawns of the immortal Greek gods. Is the love between them real, or part of a larger prophecy?

EXCERPT

Colt’s body temperature heated until his helmet, now that of a Trojan, melted and became part of his skull. Painful, thick, fire plumes ignited from the sides of his head and curved toward the sky, until they solidified in a solid line down the middle of the helmet. Black snake-like smoke wafted up from the earth and encircled his ankles and wrists, locking him into place.

The smoke turned into bindings and massaged tentacles over his chest and phallus.

He looked over at Lilly, who now knelt helpless as her skin became dusky, then turned a brilliant shade of blue. However, the color became an iridescent hue that reminded him of something just outside the confines of his mind. Her skin bubbled, separated, and formed into thousands of compact hairs. Small points protruded from her shoulders and down her arms until they freed themselves from the surface of her skin, as she screamed. Several long, hollow shoots grew, lengthening into the elegant, arching rods, as more buds sprouted from them and turned into thready feathers. As the feathers lengthened, green and blue eyes opened in intervals. At a screech of transformation, Lilly turned into a peacock, whose tail plumed out in a perfect fan. A feathered diadem lifted from her skull and the beautiful eyes all blinked at him. He wanted to mate with her, devour her, possess her, and bellowed out an unearthly warrior battle cry. Breaking his bonds, he charged at her.

AUTHOR Bio and Links:

Award-winning author, Jeny Heckman, was born in Bellingham, Washington, and was the youngest of two daughters. She met her husband, Jeff, in August 1992, and eloped three months later, at Magen’s Bay, on St. Thomas, U.S.V.I.

She wrote her first book, the Catch, in a few short months but took several years before she gained the courage to self-publish it at her son’s urging, and her love for writing began.
In 2018, Jeny knew her next project would be a series that showed adults could have adventures in the paranormal-fantasy genre too. So, she created the Heaven & Earth series, a story of doomed Greek gods and their only salvation, their modern-day descendants. Her first book of the series, the Sea Archer, was immediately picked up by the New York publishing house, the Wild Rose Press, and won, “Best in Category” from the 2018 Chanticleer International Book Awards.

In the year 2020, Jeny released, Dancing Through Tears, a short story from the anthology, Australia Burns: Volume Two, highlighting the Route 91 massacre from the perspective of one family at the concert, and at Mandalay Bay. She also intends to release, the Warrior’s Progeny, and Dee’s Cornucopia, in 2020, continuing the Heaven & Earth Series.
Jeny lives in Washington State with her husband of over twenty-eight years.

Jeny, Tell us about you as a person

I am a wife of twenty-seven years and a mother of two fantastic kids. What makes me, me? I’m caring and compassionate. I volunteer with Hospice as a volunteer and as a vigil member. I’m an introvert, I know a lot of people but have only a few friends that I would trust with everything I am. I enjoy people’s stories and believe everyone has a great story to tell.

If you could hang out with one famous person for one day, who would it be and why?

Morgan Freeman! I LOVE Morgan Freeman. I think he would be fascinating to talk to. He’d be amazing to listen to. I love his views about most things, and he has all this experiences to back it up. He is a man that knows his truth and a man that is thirsty to learn.

What’s the story behind your latest book?

The Warrior’s Progeny is book two in my Heaven & Earth series. The first book, The Sea Archer established “the foundation” for the prophecy and quest the characters must undergo and book two, requires “strength in family,” for the quest to continue. The Greek mythology world realizes it can touch the modern-day world more and that is wreaking a little havoc.

What is your writing process?

My process. Well, when I start a new book I’ve found I’m a plotter. I organize an outline, collect and flesh out my characters, and create my setting. However, when I’m in the book, I become more of a pantser, and allow the characters to tell the story. I do have to reach milestone plot points but the outlines on how to get there, sometimes gets lost. I have to start a book with a spotless office, then it gets trashed! I need it to be quiet, however, I can listen to music, if there aren’t any words.

Tell us about your main character.

There’s really two. Lilly is a widow with two children. She’s a pediatric cardiothoracic surgeon and very good at her job. She hasn’t dated anyone since her husband, David passed away four years prior.

Colt is a Seattle Warrior football tight end. He has a reputation for not being a team player and is very ruthless on the field. When an incident happens, he’s traded to the Seattle team and decides to turn over a new leaf.

If your book was to be turned into a movie, who would play the lead role and why.

Sam Heughan is the model I used for Colton Stone, except he’d be American. He’s a red head, the correct build and in his angry moments he’s got Colt down. Mila Kunis would be a good Lilly. Her stature, eyes, humor and no nonsense personality seem to be that of the dedicated Dr. Morgan.

What are you working on next?

I’m editing Dee’s Cornucopia, a side novella from the Heaven & Earth series, featuring a fan favorite. I’m Re-writing the Catch, and working on getting both the Sea Archer and The Warrior’s Progeny made into audiobooks.

Next year I hope to get out book three of the series, and I’m working on and off-genre political thriller, as well as working on a YA series.

What advice do you have for other writers who want to get the word out about their book?

It’s so hard isn’t it!? It’s the one thing I wish I understood more before I got started writing. Not that I wouldn’t have become a writer, but I would have put some things into place first. I find working with other authors and helping them get their books out there, makes them want to do the same. Not to mention other writers understand who you are in a way no one else does. It’s one of the reasons I love conferences, because you can be yourself and no one looks at you funny when you speak about your characters as if they’re flesh and blood.

What is your favorite author on your shelf right now?

I’m really into Darynda Jones right now. I love her Charley Davidson series and was sad to see it end. However, she has some great new books out and I’m reading Betwixt right now.

Do you have any special/extraordinary talents?

Hmm, well, I guess most people would say I’m talented at being creative. I love to draw, design, create and implement so many things from jewelry to house plans to painting. I’m not the best, but I do have an above average talent at all things creative.

You are given the choice of one super power. What super power would you have and why?

Being a speed reader with a photographic memory. I know that’s not what you meant BUT I do consider it a superpower. To be able to recall anything you read at any given time, is pretty awesome!

List 5 things on your bucket list:

  • Visiting Greece before my series is finished
  • Own a vacation home in the Scottish Highlands
  • Write a best-selling novel
  • Visit every country my ancestors are from and stay a month there
  • Feel okay with the way I look in a swimsuit

Any final thoughts?

You one thing I’ve come to appreciate is time. There never seems like we have enough of it! I’d like to thank you for spending some moments with me and to Mr. Milson, thank you for hosting me today. It’s been a pleasure!
